The Hospice Benefit
The majority of hospice patients are covered under the Medicare benefit. Included in the hospice benefit are:
- Physician services
- Nursing care
- Home health aide services
- Social worker
- Chaplain
- Medical equipment related to the terminal diagnosis
- Medication related to the terminal diagnosis
- Dietary counseling
- In-patient and respite care
- 24 hour support
Medicaid covers the hospice benefit in most states and most private insurance plans provide hospice coverage.
